In 2022, four sailors across the junior, youth and senior pathway have been selected to have subsidised access to our Performance Academy group training, a mentoring programme and team kit through our Performance Academy Sailing Scholarships. We are proud to announce that one of these sailors is Tom Mitchell!

Tom is an ILCA 6 sailor and a cadet member at the Royal Tay Yacht Club. He is currently competing on the national circuit. We asked Tom to answer a few questions about what sailing means to him and his upcoming goals:

What is your next sailing goal?

My next sailing goal is the youth national which is a key event to me this year. I want to perform the best I can that week and the ideal goal would be to win.

What sailing / windsurfing means to me

I love sailing as a sport as it is always changing no two days are the same as something will always be different. I think this is great as you can never get bored of it.

If you’re not on the water, Where or how do you spend your time?

Sailing is really my life I spend all my spare time racing, training or at least thinking about it. When I am not sailing, I love cycling. Whilst it is a great sport itself it also really benefits my sailing. In the summer I also love to go windsurfing when it’s too windy to sail.
