The Athena Foiling Pathway delivered by the Performance Academy

The NEW Athena Foiling Pathway will be delivered by the Performance Academy, with its world-class coaches and experience in providing support and training from entry-level sailors to elite athletes. Support from WASZP will allow sailors to get to grips with the art of foiling in the accessible, one-design dinghy and enable them to race in the highly competitive global WASZP circuit. WPNSA, Britain’s hub of high-performance sailing, will provide world-class conditions and facilities for the program, with UK WASZP distributor Sailingfast on hand to share their technical knowledge and to keep the boats maintained to racing standard.

Junior Foiling Pathway

The Athena Foiling Pathway will kick off in August 2023 with a Junior Foiling Pilot week run at WPNSA, taking a group of young sailors through various foiling techniques and an introduction to basic foiling racing. Phase 2 will involve a taster programme for junior class associations and will continue into Autumn. Phase 3 is a 6 week programme that will be happening in 2024. Selected sailors from phase 1 and 2 will work on their skill sets to take part in the 2025 WASZP games.

Youth Foiling Pathway

The Foiling Pathway will also seek to develop sailors at Youth level, with plans currently in the works for an Athena Youth Foiling Team and a BST/BSS Foiling Program. The will comprise a series of 4 annual camps based at WPNSA. This will give British Sailing Team sailors from non-foiling classes a platform to hone their foiling abilities and a possible gateway into professional sailing.
